Peace be unto you!

I therefore, not as a teacher, but as one of you, will endeavor to lay
before you a few things by which you may, on many accounts, become the more joyful. Barnabas 1:10

Hecate - Hallwe'en / Day of the Dead / Death / Matthew 8:22

Blessed is the Child of Light Who doth study the Book of the Law, for he shall be as a candle in the dark of night, and an island of truth in a sea of falsehood. For know ye, that the written word which cometh from God is a reflection of the Heavenly Sea, even as the bright stars reflect the face of heaven. As the words of the Ancient Ones are etched with the hand of God on the Holy Scrolls so is the Law engraved on the hearts of the faithful who do study them. For it was said of old, that in the beginning there were giants in the earth and mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And the Children of Light shall guard and preserve their written word, lest we become again as beasts and know not the Kingdom of the Angels. Know ye too, that only through the written word shalt thou find that Law which is unwritten, as the spring which floweth from the ground hath a hidden source in the secret depths beneath the earth. The written Law is the instrument by which the unwritten Law is understood, as the mute branch of a tree becomes a singing flute in the hands of the Shepard. Many there are who would stay in the tranquil valley of ignorance, where children play and butterflies dance in the sun for their short hour of life. But none can tarry there long, and ahead rise the somber mountains of learning. Many there are who fear to cross, and many there are who have fallen bruised and bleeding from their steep and rugged slopes. But faith is the guide over the gaping chasm, and perseverance the foothold in the jagged rocks. Beyond the icy peaks of struggle lies the peace and beauty of the Infinite Garden of Knowledge, where the meaning of the Law is made known to the Children of Light. Here in the center of its forest stands the Tree of Life, Mystery of Mysteries. He who hath found peace with the teachings of the Ancients, through the light of the mind, through the light of nature, and through the study of the Holy Word hath entered the cloud-filled Hall of the Ancients. Where dwelleth the Holy Brotherhood, of whom no man may speak.

Know this peace with thy mind, Desire this peace with thy heart, Fulfill this peace with thy body”

Hecate - Hallwe'en / Day of the Dead / Death / Matthew 8:22

The Fifth Communion is with the Angel of Life, She who gives strength and vigor to man. For, lo, if the wax is not pure, how then can the candle give a steady flame? Go, then, toward the high-growing trees, and before one of them, which is beautiful, high-growing and mighty, say these words: “Hail be unto thee! O good, living tree made by the Creator!” Then shall the River of Life flow between you and your Brother, the Tree, and health of the body, swiftness of foot, quick hearing of the ears, strength of the arms and eyesight of the eagle be yours. Such is the Communion with the Angle of Life, Holy Messenger of the Earthly Mother.

Herbal Dog Health

This time of year a lot of different maladies can affect our dog’s health. The heat brings out various bugs and bacteria’s that are dormant most of the year. Dogs skin and ears can be aversely affected.

According to Kathleen Brown’s booklet, “Ten Herbs For Happy Healthy Dogs”, these ten herbs can be mixed and matched to tend to many dog dilemmas: calendula, chamomile, comfrey, echinacea, garlic, marshmallow root, peppermint, rosemary, sage and slippery elm. These all can be taken in capsules, tinctures, potions or powdered herb sprinkled on their food.

From my own experience, I can testify for the validity of using herbs in dog care. I had an aging “rotten-dobie” (rottwieller-doberman), who had been through the heartworm treatment. This is when they pesticide the dog to the brink of death to kill the insidious worms. He survived the poisoning but was left with some inherit maladies: holes in the heart and lungs, and a compromised immune system.

He was eight years old then; I started him on an immune stimulant tincture of echinacea, astragalus root, red clover blossoms, myrrh, and Oregon grape holly root. A few years later I incorporated Essiac daily. As we all know ‘All good dogs go to Heaven’. When it was getting close to this time for him, at 13 years old, I hand fed him slippery elm gruel. This sustained him sufficiently till he passed. Excuse me, must go wipe my eyes and blow my nose.

Just recently my rat terrier had what is called a hot spot break out on her leg. These hot spots can appear for no rhyme or reason. The dog will usually keep licking causing the spot to grow. I infused calendula and oat straw. Put it in a spritzer bottle and after 24 hours is already drying up and diminishing

Point being, you can have a healthy, happier dog using herbal supplements and being responsible pet owners. A daily nutritional supplement that also keeps your dogs skin and coat in optimum condition is as follows. 1 part burdock root, 1 part calendula, 1 part crushed garlic, and 1 part nettle leaf. You would give this in tea, capsule or tincture form. You could add 1 part powdered kelp to this recipe.

A great coat conditioning massage tonic would consist of 2 cups water, 2 tablespoons nettle, and 2 tablespoons rosemary. Boil water, pour over Herbs (not dog) steep until cool, strain then massage into dogs coat.’ Do Not Rinse Out’.

“Rosemary Wound Wonder” is a great natural anti-biotic tonic. Make a strong infusion of rosemary; use it as a rinse for wounds, and internally.
There are those who actually use herbals for heartworm control, the basic ingredients being wormwood and black walnut hulls. After dealing with a dog infested with heartworm. I use the vet’s pills.

Remember we will be in the prime of rattlesnake season. Anti-venom is expensive and doesn’t always work. Keep an eye on your pets. Keep it simple and lets keep our dogs healthy and happy.

In My Opinion

There are two questions I think need to be removed from an application of employment, your sex and you’re race. It’s been decades since we went through the “Women’s Lib” era and sorted out equality in the work place for the same skill level, no matter the gender. So why are we still differentiating before being half way through the application? It’s not supposed to matter. Yet there it is, that question on whether the applicant is male or female, in black and white. Written proof that we may not be as far along in our evolution as we may boast to be. All it takes is a lone individual, which may become a big step in humanity, to make an “executive decision” to highlight and delete that line on the template of the application in the computer. (oops, I’m sorry did I do that?)

Race is another one that bugs my craw. I don’t know about you, well I do, you’re part of the Human Race and so am I. Everybody I know and come in contact with comes from the Human race. Black, white, brown, red, olive skin may tell us where the person’s inherited physical genetic arrangements originated from, something that started centuries ago and really has nothing to do with the work place here and now. Skin color doesn’t exclude anyone from the Human Race. So why is that question there? It’s obvious the applicant would be a Free willed, Conscious guided, Homo-sapient, the “Human” part of the Race.

The options given for answers to the question on race is geared more towards what is ones Nationality. Pretty much we covered that with the inherent chemical make-up of the body we inhabit.

So I choose the box that says “Other”, for Caucasian is not a race, neither is Hispanic, nor African American, nor Asian. Where I am from may also not be my nationality. The answer to that question of where one is from may be gotten further down the job application at the address and previous address. If they want to go way back they can get a print out of high school manuscript for the another answer to that question.

Okay, back to the box, I use “Other” because I am of the Human Race and that’s what I write in. I am not of the Animal Kingdom, nor of the Plant Kingdom. Those are the only two other Kingdoms/Races on Earth in the seen physical world that I was taught in grade school. So wouldn’t the question of Race be a moot point?

If the question is really about nationality, well that’s supposed to be a null point too, right?? If an establishment is a true “equal opportunity employer”, described as one that does not discriminate between race, sex, religion and so forth, why bring it up on the application and waste the ink.

We preach equality for all, yet in the smallest of the records in our lives we show that still may not be so. If it were so these two questions on a job application that bug me so wouldn’t be there. It wouldn’t even be a thought in ones mind. The focus would be on the skills needed for the job and some of the best skills are talents from the heart, which get missed by appearance, gender and nationalities due to labor board quotas.

I thank God that Jesus didn’t pick his disciples via the employment application of today instead of what was in the hearts of those whom he chose. Rev. RL

Saved by Angels

“He will give his angels charge of you, to guard you in all your ways” Psalm 91:11

Billy Graham, author of “Angels: God’s Secret Agents: tells about the experiences of others who are convinced that when they were in moments of special needs, angels where there to help. The teaching of the Scriptures inspired his work. In which they testify that God has sent assistance for humans in their time of need by sending countless Angels at his command to help with their Spiritual conflicts.

Graham has gained the confidence that Angels exist and they provide unperceived aid on our behalf. The Bible says there are Angels and because he has sensed their presence during his life, he believes in them.

In Billy Graham’s books he speaks of a few incidents that that occur in which Angels have helped people through their time of need. I would like to share with you two of the passages from the book that have inspired me to continue in my research and studies of Angels. The perception I received from his writings made me both amazed and interested and of course I hope they touch you in the same way.

The first I would like to share with you was old be Elizabeth Elliot about her father’s experience with Angelic helpers: “My father, when he was a small boy was climbing on an upper story of a house that was being built. He walked to the end of a board that was not nailed at the other end, and it slowly began to tip. He knew that he was doomed, but inexplicably the board began to tip the other way, as though a hand had pushed it down again. He always wondered if it was an Angel’s hand.”

The second story was reported by the Reader’s Digest: “A celebrated Philadelphian neurologist had gone to bed after a tiring day. Suddenly he was awakened by someone knocking on his door. Opening it he found a little girl, poorly dressed and deeply upset. She told him her mother was very sick and asked him if he would please come with her. It was a bitterly cold, snowy night, though he was bone tire, the doctor dressed and followed the girl.

The doctor found the mother desperately ill with pneumonia. After arranging for medical care he complimented the sick women on the intelligence and persistence of her little daughter. The women looked at him strangely and then said, “Her shoes and coat are in the clothes closet there.” Amazed and perplexed, the doctor went to the closet and opened the door. There hung the very coat worn by the little girl who had brought him to tend to her mother. It was warm and dry and could not possibly have been out in the wintery night. Could the Doctor have been called in the hour of desperate need by an Angel who appeared as this women’s young daughter? Was this the work of God’s Angels on behalf of the sick women? I guess it is up to you to decide what you believe.

Hecate - Hallwe'en / Day of the Dead / Death / Matthew 8:22

Hecate - Hallowe'en

Hecate’s day is widely considered the most powerful time of the year. The Crone indeed has come into her own as we observe the onset of wintery weather. Until spring Equinox, Persephone will reside with Hecate in the underworld, learning the mysteries and powers of the deep self. She experiences her solo magic, her eternal soul, her abilities to create and uncreate, or heal. This is a good time for divination, communicating with the dead, strong dream teachings, and banishments of all kinds. The veil between the worlds of life and death is thin, and the powers of the dark area available to us. Some consider Hallomas the New Year, the end and beginning of the Goddess’ cycle. In olden times witches would hold their greatest gatherings to honor Hecate, sometimes called “The Queen of the Witches”.

Goblins and Hobgoblins
The word goblin, in contemporary English, means an evil spirit; sort of a small demon. Goblins were perceived as evil or mischievous spirits and were also considered a grotesque group of fairies. They liked to frighten people with horrific pranks. Some people also associate goblins with poltergeists. The term hobgoblin was originally reserved for helpful goblins who were more like brownies, (a fairy portrayed as an intelligent being who seek out deserving people to serve). Because the Puritans used hobgoblins and goblins to designate evil spirits, both words eventually acquired demonic connotations. Rev. Dianna

Day of the Dead

“Day of the Dead”, a Pre-Hispanic Mexican festival in Remembrance of the Ones that have passed on before us and the Children whom come after us, the continuity of Life.

This celebration can be traced to Mesoamerican traditions being ritually presided over by the “Lady of the Dead” falling on the end of the Gregorian month of July and first of August and was celebrated all month long. It wasn’t till the post-conquest did this day change to coincide with “All Hallows Eve” and “All Saints Day”, once again transforming an observance of the profane into a Christian celebration to be held on the first two days in November.

The End of July and beginning of August makes much more sense then the end of Oct, beginning of Nov for the celebration of the Day of the Dead. It is the beginning of the season when we witness Mother Nature transform her flowers giving way to seed before it rejoins the elements of the earth. The tree leaves turn beautiful colors before dropping to create a thick blanket protecting the seeds from the cold of the on coming winter. The gardens are being picked clean and tilled back into the soil to begin is decomposition for the next years planting.

The end of July, beginning of August is also when we start seeing the decline in the length of the day as the strength of the Moon waxes. These are the cycles in which God laid down, which we are all connected to.

On the first day in the Traditional Observance, the Day of the Little Angels (Dia de los Angelitos), was/is for the remembrance of the departed children, the second day was/is for the remembrance of the departed adults. This is a big social event, a family reunion of grand size. Stories and memories are told with the warmest of hearts of the beloved dead and food was abounded. Gravesites and altars are elaborately decorated with bright large flowers and items belonging to or favored by the soul that’s passed. This is done to entice the dead to return and take part in the remembrance. In native villages petals were scattered down a path to guide the soul to the home of their family. Interaction between the living and the dead is an important way of recognizing the cycle of life and death in human existence.

A lot has changed with the traditions of this celebration since the Aztecs when the festival was two months long, the first for the children and the second for the adults.

Like many old and new belief systems the Aztecs believed a person’s destiny was founded on their birth. Interestingly though they also believed the soul was dependent on the type of death rather than the type of life the person lead. Whereas we believe our soul is dependent on the accumulation of our life experiences.

Samhain

Also known as the Celtic New Year, All Hallows Eve and Hallowmas, falls between October 1st and November 4th when the Sun is at 15 degrees Scorpio. We are more familiar with the term, Halloween and celebrate it on October 31st.

Samhain, being the New Year celebrated the Beginning and Ending of all things, the Cycle of Life, (regeneration) and Death (transformation).

This powerful time of year is also known to be the time when the gate between the physical world and the spirit world is wide open. With the merging of these two worlds, communication with the spirits of the dead whom roam freely on earth is easiest now than any other time of the year.

This is the time to pay respect to those who have gone before us. A perfect time to call on transitioned elders for guidance and any warnings there may be for the coming year.

On a personal lever, Samhain is a fire festival signifying a time for closures. To rebuild what is needed (within the personality), and to get rid of what is not needed or beneficial. So, open your inner closets people, it's time for Fall Cleaning. Rev Rhonda

“Death is simply a transformation and, just as each physical particle of the body continues to exist in another form, the soul, a higher substance, continues its evolution after death.
ENEL, 1886-1963 “Post Mortem”

Death, why is there so much of it in this Newsletter? Couple of reasons, one is that we were asked if we could focus this Volume on the Holidays such as Halloween and the Day of the Dead which center around those who are physically dead. (Careful what you ask for – you might get it.) Another reason is that there is so much Death publicized due to the wars that it encroaches on every second of our day we can’t get away from it. The bombarding news reports affect us much more than we realize. And it’s not just wars, it’s death caused by natural disasters, terminal illnesses, car accidents, brutal beatings in our streets and in our homes, the list goes on and on.

Than one day a Physician associate of mine asked if I thought God was taking his Children “home”. My answer was “Yes”.

“Home” and “Death” two words rarely associated together in a typical daily conversation. Mostly these two words are heard together when being said by a person on their “death bed”. Or by someone that has just gone through a traumatic period. I have even heard myself say, “I’m tired and want to go home”. In what aspect are we using the term? What or actually, where are we speaking?

Home: a place of comfort and safety.
Heaven/Nirvana: A place where there is no more suffering.

Death: the opposite of Birth. Or is it? The Transition for both is very similar. We leave people behind on the plane we are leaving, the umbilical cord is cut in one instance, the silver cord in another and there are people waiting for us on the plane we are entering, Breath of Life is given in Birth, Breath of Life is taken in death. The big difference in the two, Birth we are leaving “Home”, in Death we are Returning.

Praise be! Rev. Rhonda LaPierre

Hecate - Hallwe'en / Day of the Dead / Death / Matthew 8:22

Matthew 8:22. “And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. 22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.”

Luke 9:59-60 is the only other author in the approved scriptures that includes this short story. Both dropping the thought off with “bury their dead”.

These scripture, like many others use the term “dead” in a way other than physical death. The physical dead cannot bury the physical death it is physically impossible. In the scriptures above a double meaning is a little clearer to see for it is used twice in one sentence.

Levi, son of Alphaeus, a publican, also a chosen disciple of Jesus, (Mark 2:14) records the story’s ending a little differently: “But Jesus said “The dead can care for those who die; the living wait for those who live; come follow Me.”

The “Dead”, those who are locked in one perception, not willing to open up to other possibilities, “I tell you men, the benefits that come to men who see no further than themselves are baubles in the morning light”4, (see past the nose on their face, is a more widely known saying of today with the same meaning).

How many people do you know that walk through their lives seemingly unconscious of the things they do? Unconscious of the effects their doings have on others, even truer effects their actions have on themselves and even the effects they have on a global scale, (“The Butterfly Effect”).

I run into examples of this “Deadness” all the time and I am not exempt from falling into this “trap”. I have a co-worker that stays in a state of negativity, not matter the amount of “positive” counter used, the person clings to the negative aspects of what seems to be everything. I believe it is at this point one needs to turn and “let the dead bury their dead”.

Mark 12:27 “He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the Living: ye therefore greatly err.”

I don’t want to be of the “dead” if God is not there. I want to be of the Living. To be of the Living it is a choice one needs to make the second one wakes up in the morning. A choice to be happy or to be miserable, a choice to dwell on circumstances one can’t change yet complain about a situation one can and not. Choose to be conscious of “YOU”, what you do or say; choose to be aware of those around you. We are all connected, whether we are conscious of it or not. My mood is going to affect everyone I come in contact with, and that may affect those whom they come in contact with. How I perceive everything around me is also going to affect everything around me.

Mark 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy mind and with all they strength: this is the first commandment. 31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is no other commandment greater than these.

Choose to take care of You, (you are a Child of God remember), taking care of your body, mind and soul. In doing so you will be best able to “love thy neighbor” in even the smallest of situations.

“…Jesus said “The dead can care for those whose die; the living wait for those who live; come follow Me.”
